How to measure a ceiling correctly for wallpaper

Before placing an order for ceiling wallpaper, it’s important to take accurate measurements so the pattern fits your space perfectly.

1. Preparing the room
Before you begin measuring, make sure the room is as clear as possible. Move or remove furniture and any items that might get in the way or affect the accuracy of your measurements. A clear space makes the process easier and helps you capture the correct dimensions.

2. Measuring the ceiling
Carefully measure the length and width of the ceiling in the area where you plan to apply the wallpaper. Use a tape measure and record each dimension, measuring from one side of the room to the other, both lengthways and widthways.

For safety, add an allowance of 5–10 cm (approx. 3 inch) to each side. This extra gives you margin during installation to accommodate slight wall variances and to align the pattern perfectly.

3. How to enter dimensions correctly when ordering
To avoid mistakes when ordering, it’s essential to enter the dimensions correctly. Always list the longer side as the height and the shorter side as the width.

For example, if your ceiling measures 600 cm on one side and 270 cm on the other, 600 cm should be entered as the height, and 270 cm as the width. If we reverse them and enter 270 cm as the height, the pattern will run along the shorter side and the orientation of the design will not match what you expect.

For the most pleasing result, it’s best to minimise the number of seams (strips) across the ceiling so the wallpaper appears as smooth and seamless as possible.
